15/02/2012Leuven hosted the kick-off meeting of ALTERNATIVE project

For three days in February project partners` representatives met for the first time in Leuven, Belgium, to discuss theoretical and practical issues concerning the future four years collaboration in the ALTERNATIVE project.

`This challenging project will offer insights on intercultural conflicts and the possibilities of applying mediation. Through the use of mediation, we are looking for alternative ways of dealing with conflicts. I look forward to working together with our partners on this endeavour!` said project manager Dr. Inge Vanfraechem from KU Leuven.

01/02/2012ALTERNATIVE project launched

How can research contribute to a safer and more peaceful multicultural Europe? How feelings of safety of inhabitants can be increased via alternative conflict resolution methods? Is it possible to resolve conflicts between different ethnic, religious, cultural groups with the tools of restorative justice? And, how can this all be measured and presented? These are the main questions of a new research project promoted by KU Leuven and financed by the European Commission under the FP7 programme.

The `ALTERNATIVE` project, in which experts, researchers and practitioners from Austria, Belgium, Hungary, Norway, Serbia and the UK (Northern Ireland) will cooperate, has started on the 1st of February 2012 and will run for 4 years.
